The **icom Connectivity Suite - VPN** is a service of INSYS icom for the simple and secure network connection of locations, plants, control centers and mobile devices via a Virtual Private Network (VPN). > [!NOTE] > Check your device! > > This Configuration Guide only applies to routers of INSYS icom running under the **icom OS** operating system. These include the router series MRX, MRO, ECR, SCR as well as MIRO and MIROdul (plus possible later series). ## Situation You have added an INSYS router in the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN** and want to configure it as participant in the VPN network now. ## Solution The following Configuration Guide shows how to configure an INSYS router with icom OS for the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN**. There are two options for configuring the router depending on its initial condition: - A router that is in default settings and has no Internet connection yet should be commissioned for the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN** using the startup wizard. - A router that is already configured and has Internet connection should be configured for the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN** manually. ### Configuration via startup wizard It is prerequisite that the device is already added to the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN**. Refer to this [Configuration Guide](/kb/docs/en/adding-an-insys-router-with-icom-os-to-the-icom-connectivity-suite-vpn-en) to find out how to add the device. > [!WARNING] > Note for routers behind an external firewall! > > Please note the instructions for routers behind an external firewall on the [Startup wizard](/kb/docs/en/quickstart-wizard-en) page. 1. Commission the router as described in the [Quick Installation Guide](/kb/docs/en/quick-installation-guide-en). 2. Start the [startup wizard](/kb/docs/en/quickstart-wizard-en) in the *Wizards* menu and configure system time, authentication and Internet connection accordingly. 3. Select **icom Connectivity Suite** as *VPN connection* and enter *Customer name* and *Device code*. > [!NOTE] > Where to find this? > > The *Customer name* is specified in the classic user interface on the *My VPN Hub* tab in the **icom Connectivity Suite**. If no special Device code has been specified when adding the device, the default code is used. This is shown and configured on the *System* → *My VPN Hub* page in the *Account Information* field. 4. Configure the further options of the wizard accordingly and complete it with SUBMIT or *Execute wizard*. The router will connect to the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN** now and retrieve its VPN configuration for this. ### Manual configuration It is prerequisite that the router has Internet connection and is already added to the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN**. Refer to this [Configuration Guide](/kb/docs/en/adding-an-insys-router-with-icom-os-to-the-icom-connectivity-suite-vpn-en) to find out how to add the device. 1. Open the portal of the **icom Connectivity Suite**: - [https://connectivity.insys-icom.de](https://connectivity.insys-icom.de) - Select your preferred language under *Sprache* or *Language* and click on *Log in*. 2. Select on the *Devices* page in the device list the device to be configured, by selecting it from the dropdown-list *Devices* or clicking in the *ID* column on it. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c690fe99-a3eb-474c-a449-c2c75e5df119/Images/Documentation/image(78).png) 3. Click on the device details page on DOWNLOAD CONFIGURATION and save the configuration file on your computer. > [!NOTE] > Please note! > > This is a regular ASCII configuration file for updating the profile of the router with the necessary settings. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/c690fe99-a3eb-474c-a449-c2c75e5df119/Images/Documentation/image(79).png) 4. Open the user interface: [https://insys.icom](https://insys.icom) 5. Click in the *Administration* → *Profiles* menu in the *ASCII configurations* section on and upload the previously downloaded ASCII configuration file. 6. Click on to apply an ASCII configuration file that has been uploaded. 7. Click on ACTIVATE PROFILE . > [!NOTE] > Please note! > > All settings are stored in profiles. Only to activate a profile causes that the router takes on and executes the settings. The profile updated with the ASCII configuration file will be activated and router will connect to the **icom Connectivity Suite – VPN** now. > [!NOTE] > Please note! > > However, this does not yet ensure a secure configuration for the icom Connectivity Suite - VPN since this depends on the router settings that have already been made. If more than one WAN chain or a VPN tunnel have already been configured for example, this may cause conflicts with the configuration file. A further manual editing of the configuration is necessary then. ## Troubleshooting - You can verify a successful connection when the *Status* of the device in the device list in the *Devices* menu of the **icom Connectivity Suite - VPN** changes to *Online*. Please note that this may take up to a few minutes. - If the error *verification of signature failed* is issued when uploading the ASCII configuration file, the configuration file is not valid; this can happen, for example, if the uploaded configuration file is for a router running INSYS OS. - If it does not get **online**, check the following: - Condition of the cellular connection under ![view dashboard outline](https://docs.insys-icom.de/assets/icons/view-dashboard-outline.png) *Status* → *Dashboard* (for an LTE router) - Condition of the OpenVPN connection under ![view dashboard outline](https://docs.insys-icom.de/assets/icons/view-dashboard-outline.png) *Status* → *Dashboard* - OpenVPN Log in the ![view dashboard outline](https://docs.insys-icom.de/assets/icons/view-dashboard-outline.png) *Status* → *Logs* menu > [!NOTE] > How to access the router? > > The user interface of the router can be accessed as follows: > > - Local: the PC from which access is made must be in the local network of the router > - Remote: the PC from which access is made must be in the VPN network of the **icom Connectivity Suite - VPN** ([Configuration Guide](/kb/docs/en/adding-a-third-party-device-pc-to-the-icom-connectivity-suite-vpn-en)). A VPN is a communications environment in which access is controlled to permit peer connections only within a defined community of interest. It is constructed though some form of partitioning of a common underlying communications medium, where this underlying communications medium provides services to the network on a non-exclusive basis Standard IP address: https://192.168.1.1; login depending on configuration; default for earlier firmware versions: *User name*: **insys**, *Password*: **icom** Applying an ASCII configuration file means that the opened profile will be amended or modified by the configurations contained. The opened profile will not be activated by this unless it contains the command `administration.profiles.activate`. Activating a profile means that the profile becomes the running profile
