How do I change the internet connection on a router that is already configured?

Prev Next

If you have a router that has already been configured and you only want to change the WAN connection, i.e. Internet access, you can simply change the WAN interface. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Add on the   NetworkInterfaces page a new interface for the WAN connection, for example an IP network for an Ethernet connection or an LTE interface for a cellular connection.

  • Replace on the   NetworkWAN / Internet page in the primary WAN chain the previous WAN interface by the recently added WAN interface, for example lte2 by net3.

  • Replace on the   NetworkRouting page in the existing routes the previous WAN interface by the recently added WAN interface, for example lte2 by net3.

  • Replace on the   NetworkFirewall / NAT page in the existing IP filter and NAT rules the previous WAN interface by the recently added WAN interface, for example lte2 by net3.

  • In case of an IP network that uses static addresses instead of a DHCP server, configure on the   NetworkRouting page also the gateway for the default route and specify on the   NetworkHostnames / DNS page the address of the DNS server.
