Endpoints / Webproxies - icom Connectivity Suite - VPN

Prev Next

The icom Connectivity Suite – VPN allows you to set up endpoints (devices on the router's network) for direct remote access to these devices. In addition, webproxies may be added to these endpoints to extend their connectivity.

Endpoints enable direct VPN connection to the published IP address of the end device. A licensed OpenVPN client is normally required.

Webproxies facilitate access to the endpoint using a web service accessible via the VPN and secured using the HTTPS protocol. Data transmission is encrypted via HTTPS and does not require installation of an OpenVPN client. Webproxies provide easy access to many HTTP(S)-enabled devices (e.g., IP cameras) from virtually any PC or smartphone with internet access.

Webproxy authentication, when required, is performed using a user name and password combination. The user name is either the Name in URL assigned when adding the webproxy or the serial number of the INSYS router to which the device to be accessed is connected. The password is the device code of the INSYS router. If no device code is configured, the default code (configurable on the My VPN Hub page) applies.

The Endpoint page lists all endpoints registered in the icom Connectivity Suite - VPN in a table. This is also where endpoints are created. When creating an endpoint, a webproxy can optionally be created for this endpoint.

The detail information page of an endpoint can be opened using the dropdown list Endpoints (Webproxies). The selection can be narrowed down by entering a search string.

The timestamp indicates the last update of the endpoint list in the table. A click on updates the list.

New endpoints can be added using the + ADD ENDPOINT button. This opens the respective dialogue.

The visible columns of the list can be set by a click on COLUMNS. A FILTER enables to filter the list for the desired content. Changes to columns and applied filters will be reset the next time the page is loaded.

EXPORT allows to export the visible content of the list after applying the filters to a CSV file (saved in the browser's download directory) or to print it. The name of the CSV file contains the time at which the data was generated and does not necessarily correspond to the time of export.

Depending on the configuration of the visible columns, the table contains the following columns:

  • The ID column shows the unique identification number for this endpoint. This identifier cannot be changed in order to ensure continuous tracking. Clicking on the ID will take you to the detail information for this endpoint.

  • The Name column shows the name of this endpoint. The name assigned when the endpoint was created can also be edited by clicking on the ID in the detail information.

  • The Device column displays the device for which this endpoint was created. If the device is currently unavailable, offline is displayed before the device name.

  • The IP in VPN column displays the IP address of the endpoint in the VPN network.

  • The Port column displays the port that has to be used to reach this endpoint in the VPN network.

  • The Webproxy URL column displays the address of an optional webproxy that can be accessed from the Internet without VPN access. If the device is currently offline, the address appears greyed out.

  • The Webproxy authentication column displays the authentication configured for an optionally created webproxy.
