icom Router Management is a powerful platform for centralized management of industrial router fleets. To control availability, functionality, and contractual usage, icom Router Management is based on a floating license model, allowing flexible, demand-based use—whether operated in the Cloud or On-Premises.
This article provides a general overview of the icom Router Management licensing model and explains system behavior when licenses expire or are insufficient.
License Model: Floating Licenses
icom Router Management uses a floating license model, where available licenses are dynamically assigned to currently connected devices:
Each actively managed router requires a valid license.
Licenses are not permanently bound to a device but are dynamically assigned upon connection.
The number of available licenses limits how many devices can be managed at the same time.
Behavior When Licenses Expire or Are Insufficient
When one or more licenses expire, the system reacts as follows:
The number of manageable devices is automatically reduced.
Excess devices, i.e., those that connected most recently beyond the license limit, will no longer receive updates.
These devices remain visible in the system but are no longer available for maintenance or management tasks.
Recommended Actions
Renew your licenses in a timely manner to avoid update errors and service interruptions.
Alternatively, reduce the number of actively managed devices to match the number of valid licenses.
