Using Custom Fields

Prev Next

Custom fields allow you to assign additional attributes to routers in icom Router Management. These attributes can be used for better differentiation, organization, or for automated rollouts.

Use Case

Custom fields can be applied very flexibly. They can be used, for example, to distinguish routers by location, mobile provider, connected network devices, or any other individual criteria. This makes it possible to control configuration and rollout processes in a targeted way. Custom fields are not limited to the router list or sorting. They can also be used in various other parts of icom Router Management, for example:

  • Router configuration templates: individual parameters can be automatically inserted into configuration templates.

  • Container configuration templates: custom fields can be used to adapt container environments depending on the device.

This significantly increases flexibility in iRM, as custom fields can be integrated into rollout and template workflows in a context-specific manner.

The following is just a simple example:
configuration should vary depending on the available WAN/Internet technology (e.g., LTE or DSL). To achieve this, a custom field is created to store the WAN technology for each router.

Steps

1. Create a custom field

  1. Log in to icom Router Management.

  2. Navigate to Settings → Custom Fields and click Add.

  3. Enter a Name, e.g. WAN.

  4. Optionally, enter a Description, e.g. WAN connection identifier.

  5. Click Add.

→ The new field is now created and available for router entries.

2. Assign a value to the custom field

  1. Under Inventory → Routers, select the router you want to edit.

  2. Go to the Custom Fields tab.

  3. Enter the desired value, e.g. LTE.

  4. Save with a click on the Save button.

→ The router is now marked with an individual attribute.

3. Display the custom field in the router list

  1. Under Inventory → Routers, open the Table settings.

  2. Enable the new custom field.

  3. Save the table settings.

→ The custom field will now appear in the router list and can be used for sorting and filtering.

Results / Benefits

  • Custom fields enable targeted control of rollouts, e.g. firmware or configuration packages.

  • Routers can be grouped and managed according to self-defined criteria (WAN type, location, provider, device mapping, etc.).

  • Flexibility in device management increases, as almost any additional information can be recorded and used.

  • Users maintain full control over differentiated rollouts in a wide variety of scenarios.
