The latest firmware for your router is available on our firmware page. Each firmware packet is available in different versions. This Configuration Guide explains how to manually update your router with the latest firmware.
Firmware packets must not be unpacked!
Firmware packets are what are so-called tarballs, i.e. archive files in which several files are combined into a single file. The router will only accept the entire firmware packet for an update.
What is the difference between an update packet for a manual update and one for an auto-update server?
An update packet for an auto-update server also contains an ASCII configuration file, which ensures that the firmware is activated automatically once the packet has been uploaded to the router.
What is the difference between an incremental update packet and a full update packet?
Incremental packets are smaller in size and are only suitable for updates within a major version, e.g. from version 9.3 to version 9.5. It is therefore not possible to update a router running firmware version 8.3 to version 9.5.
Full packets contain the entire firmware and are required for updating to a new major version, for example from version 9.5 to version 10.0. However, updates within a major version (e.g. from 9.3 to 9.5) are also possible using a full packet.
What is the difference between signed and unsigned update packets?
In the case of unsigned update packets, only the firmware contained within is signed, which prevents the installation of firmware not signed by INSYS icom. However, the update packet containing the firmware is unsigned and can be uploaded to the router.
If, for security reasons, the router is configured to accept only signed update packets (the Allow only signed update packets setting in the Administration → Automatic update menu), update packets that are not signed by the INSYS CA or your own CA (if one has been configured) will be rejected when you attempt to upload them. When enabling this function, please follow the instructions in the user interface!
How to verify the integrity of an update packet?
We strongly recommend that you only download firmware for INSYS routers from our firmware page. This Configuration Guide explains how you can also verify the integrity of an update packet.
What dependencies exist for updates and downgrades?
Major changes to the firmware mean that you can only update to a specific version of the firmware if you are already running a certain minimum version, or that they prevent you from installing an older version of the firmware (downgrade).
Always use the latest firmware!
INSYS routers are regularly updated with new firmware to address any security vulnerabilities that arise. If, due to specific requirements, you are using older firmware or need to revert to an older version, you should be aware of this.
What are the minimum requirements for the firmware version?
To upgrade to major version 10, a router must have firmware version 8.3 or later
Routers of the MRX.neo and MOROS.neo series require firmware version 10.0 or later
Routers of the MIRO series require firmware version 5.3 or later
From version 7.3 onwards, only certificates with a signature algorithm of at least SHA-256 will be supported
From version 3.7 onwards, only certificates with a signature algorithm of at least SHA-1 will be supported
What are the restrictions involved in downgrading?
The change of the file system introduced in firmware version 5.0 prevents the installation of older firmware (downgrade) up to version 4.6.
What is the difference between arm32 and arm64 files?
Firmware packets are available for routers with 32-bit or 64-bit architecture.
Routers of the MRX.neo and MOROS.neo series require 64-bit firmware packets (arm64)
Routers of the MRX, MIRO, ECR, SCR and MRO series require 32-bit firmware packets (arm32)
