Navigator - icom Connectivity Suite - VPN

Prev Next

The Navigator provides you with an easy way to organise your devices in a tree-like structure, making them easier to browse and select. This allows you to easily locate and access a specific device on the VPN network.

Please note regarding the permissions!

The structure can only be set up by users with the Account-Admin role who are marked as Contact Partner. However, users with the roles Read-Only or Account-Admin that are not marked as Contact Partner can use the structure to search for and access devices.

No automatic setup of the navigator!

The navigator is an additional structure tree in which devices created in icom Connectivity Suite - VPN can be displayed. It must be set up manually and will not be automatically populated when additional devices are created in icom Connectivity Suite - VPN.

No influence on communication rule groups!

Devices added together under a node in the navigator do NOT form groups for shared communication rules.

The tree consists of free text nodes and devices that have been added to the device list. It is possible to define multiple structure levels and add routers and third-party devices (PCs) underneath them. You can use standards such as ISA-95 Part 2 and IEC 62264 for the hierarchical organisation of your devices, or flexibly build your own structure that meets your operational requirements.

The following restrictions apply:

  • max. of 100 parent nodes; a parent node is a node with child nodes

  • the name of a node is limited to 25 characters

  • max. 5 levels deep; e. G. L1 (Enterprise) → L2 (Site) → L3 (Area) → L4 (Line) → L5 (Machine) → L6 (Device)

  • a device can be added at any level under a node

  • a device must have exactly one parent node; this is displayed in the tree structure and as a device card

  • nodes without devices do not display device cards; the selection shows an empty device card list

  • it is not possible to move or re-arrange nodes in the Navigator; they are sorted in the order of creation

The following controls are available for navigation and building the structure:

  • Expand All: expands the entire structure tree; all structure levels and devices are displayed

  • Collapse All:  collapses the entire structure tree; only the top level of the structure is displayed

  • Add Root-Level/Devices: adds another structure level or a device below the selected (highlighted) structure level

  • Remove Level: removes the selected (highlighted) structure level

  • Cancel: discards all unsaved changes to the structure tree

  • Save: saves all changes to the structure tree that have not yet been saved

If a string is entered in the Navigator / Search bar at the top, only structure levels and devices are displayed whose text fields contain the search string entered.

All devices that match the search criteria or are located under the selected node are displayed in the right-hand area with their most important properties in a device card.
A click on allows to enter descriptive text regarding this device in the Notes field.

  2. Click on the device to view its detailed device information.
